The Respiratory System takes oxygen.
Then the oxygen goes to the lungs.
The blood transport the oxygen and the nutrients around our body.
Then we expel a gas that we don´t need that is called carbon dioxide.
Parts of the Respiratory System.
- Nasal cavity: warms and filter the air.
- Larynx: is the part that allows us to speak.
- Windpipe: filters the air we inhale and branches into the bronchi.
- Bronchi: are two air tubes that come from the trachea to the lungs.
- Bronchioles: has sacs containing alveoli.
- Diaphragm: contracts to expand the sapce inside the thoracic cavity.
- Lungs: are the most important parts of the respiratory system and it has two phases, inspiration and expiration.
- Alveoli: allows the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide inside the lungs.
Inspiration.
During inspiration the lungs become larger and bigger.
The air enters to the body through the nostrils.
The air goes through the larynx into the windpipe, then into the bronchi and then goes to the lungs which are filled with air.
Expiration.
During expiration the diaphragm relaxes and the chest cavity contracts.
The lungs become smaller.
The air goes to the bronchioles.
Bronchi, windpipe and larynx, go out from the body through the nostrils.
Fun facts.
Did you know that the fastest know speed of a sneeze on record is 165 kilometers per hour ?
The right lung is larger than the left one.
The breathing rate is faster in children and women than in men.
