Thomson´s Gazelle

Characteristics:

Thomson´s gazelle is one of the best-known gazelles.

Size: 55 - 82 cm (relative small)
Weigh:  Males 20 - 35 kg ; Female: 15 - 25 kg
Diet: Herbivores (grasses, shoots and leaves)
Average live: 10 to 12 years
Habitat: Savanna (Kenya and Tanzania)

  • Ringed horns
  • Black tail
  • White belly
  • Black stripe over the belly
  • Light brown coat

Fun Facts:

  • They are called Thomson because the explorer Joseph Thomson and sometimes the people call them "tommies"
  • "Tommies" can run at speeds of about 80 km per hour
  • To survive they need to be vigilant at all times
  • Thomson´s gazelle has a lot of predators (lions, cheetahs, hyenas, leopards,..)
