AFRICAN VIOLET






ORIGIN

Saintpaulia, whose specias are commonly, called AFRICAN VIOLET, is a genus of 6 species belonging to the family, GESNERIACEAE native, southest Tanzania and Kenia, in eastern tropical AFRICA, with a concentration of species in mountains of Tanzania.

CHARACTERISTICS

They are plants more horizontal than vertical growth, usually have 6-15 cm tall and 6-30 cm wide,



PARTS

The flowers are 2 to 3 cm in diameter with a velvety corolla five lobes ( petals) and grouped arise in number from 3 to 10 or more on thin FLOWER COLOR in wild species can be violet, purple, ligth blue, or white. 


FUN FACTS

African violets are widely grown as houseplants. 

Until recently only a few of the species are used in breeding programs fohybrid.

In Africa is called " happy flower"
