THE ROSE

CHARACTERISTICS

Plants in the rose family share other common characteristics :
· 5 flower petals.
· 5 sepals
· 5 stamens,


When you look at a flower you can count the number of petals, sepals and stamens to help determine if it is in the rose family.



HOW DO ROSES REPRODUCE?

Via their flowers.
They are angiosperms. Roses are "perfect" flowers, meaning that each flower has complete male and female parts. A rose blossom produces male pollen, and it also contains the female parts so it can produce seeds after it is pollinat .When bees or other insects transfer the pollen from one kind of flower to the other, the pollen joins itself to egg cells inside the ovule, and the combined cell is considered fertilized.

  • There are over 100 species of the rose.
  • Each color of the rose symbolizes certain value. Red rose is a symbol of love, yellow of friendship, orange of enthusiasm, white of purity and pink of joy.
  • Wild roses bloom once per year. They are pollinated by insects.
  • Rose hip is a fruit of rose. It is rich source of vitamin C
  • Roses are old plants. One of the oldest fossils of roses discovered in Colorado dates back from 35 million years ago.
  • Roses can survive long period of time
