SEVEN ACTIVITIES
When you do some activities you
are moving some muscles and bones in your body. Here are some examples of the
muscles and bones that you are moving in this activities:
BASKETBALL
Basketball is a sport that
requires a lot of body work. Arms and legs are the central base. The most
important are:
Muscles:
Quadriceps, twins, calf muscle, triceps
and abdominals.
The muscles of the arms are all
used too but their development is not as important as the use of the legs
Bones:
Femur, vertebral column,
elbow, wrist, fingers, neck, back, spine, hips,
ankle, heel, knee, shoulder, etc..
AMERICAN
FOOTBALL
Muscles:
Football is a sport that requires
strength and power in nearly every muscle throughout the body. To play football
you have to use some muscles:
Shoulder muscles, arm muscles (biceps
and triceps) and forearm, upper-body muscles (pectorals major, latissimus dorsi
and the subscapularis), lower body and core muscles (abdominals and obliques,
calves, quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes).
Bones:
The main bone used to play
American football is the ulna. But there are other bones, like the humerus,
radius, shoulder, elbow and wrist, phalanges, metatarsals and patella.
BASEBALL
Muscles:
Muscles:
Baseball
players use different muscles than other athletes.
Core: abdomen muscles, trunk and hips
Legs: quadriceps, calves, tibialis
anterior, hamstrings
Forearms: biceps and wrists
Shoulderes: deltoid.
Bones:
Arm bones: elbow,
radius, wrist, humerus, clavicle and shoulder
Leg bones: femur, patella, tibia, fibula, pelvis and phalanges.
TENNIS
Muscles:
Tennis requires you to use almost all
the body’s muscles.
The main muscles used are:
Biceps
(needed for a forehand), triceps (need
for the backhand), quads (needed to
run and dig out balls), hamstrings (needed to run and bend for gets), calves
(needed to step and jump and serve), abdominals
needed to twist, deltoids (needed to
serve and overhead smash).
Bones:
Fingers (needed to grip and hold
racquet), wrists (needed to move
racquet), shoulders (needed to pivot
and use for serve motion), hips
(needed to align your body for shotmaking), feet (needed to move run, balance),
toes (needed to move for footworn), ankles
(needed for sudden starting and stoping) and knees (needed to bend lower for
lower shots).
RUNNING
Muscles:
During running, the muscles of the
lower body help to move the body through four stages -- heel strike, single
limb support, push-off and leg swing.
The main muscles used are:
Legs
: quadriceps, triceps, adductors and gluteus.
Arms:
biceps.
Bones:
Leg
bones: femur, patella, tibia, fibula, pelvis and phalanges.
Arm
bones: radius, humerus, ulna and phalanges.
SWIMMING
Muscles:
Swimming puts a lot of stress on the muscles. The
muscles used in swimming are:
The muscles in the upper limb,
includes: thenars, brachioradialis, biceps, triceps and deltoids.
The neck muscles:
sternocleidomastoid.
The front trunk muscle: pectorals, serratus anterior
and abdominals.
Bones:
The main bones that are used when swimming are the
bones of the shoulder girdle and arm.
The bones used are the
clavicle, humerus, radius and the ulna.
The bones of the legs
are used to: femur, tibia and fibula.
VOLLEYBALL
Playing volleyball requires fast,
powerful motions from all the major joints of your body– the ankles, elbows,
hips, knees, shoulders and wrists– assisted in by the surrounding muscle
groups.
Muscles:
Deltoid, sternocleidomastoid, biceps, triceps,
abdominals, serratus, obliques, quadriceps and calf muscle.
Bones:
Femur,
tibia, fibula, patella, radius, ulna, humerus, clavicle and phalangs.
