The five main senses are touch, smell, taste, hearing and sight.
The five main sense organs are the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin.
The tongue is the main sensory organ of the taste sense.
The upper surface of a tongue is covered with taste buds wich contain taste receptors
Taste buds sit on top of these papillae but are not visible to the human eye.
The tongue uses taste buds to determine the type of food and send taste signals back to our brains.
There are five elements of taste perception: salty, sour, bitter, seweet, and umami (or savoury):
-
Sweet: like a piece of cake.
- Sour: like a lemon.
- Salty: like a salt.
- Bitter: like a cup of bad coffe.
