THE DAHLIA

THE DAHLIA

The dahlia is a perennial plant, which grows in Mexico. The dahlia is the national flower of Mexico.

Its size is medium. The dahlia grows in spring and desappears in winter. Dahlias grow in warm climates. If it is cold, they freeze, so when the climate is warm again, they grow.

There are 42 species of dahlias. They are very common in gardens because they have a great variety of colours, that go from pink to red. Dahlias usually grows in groups of three. We can use them for summer garden, in containers and as cut flowers. They need plenty of organic matter and need much water.

We can eat their roots, like aztecs did.

Dahlias have two enemies: slugs and snails, specially in spring, when they are growing.

I like dahlias very much. They have bright colours, and some types have double flowers, too!
